The Gujarat Government launched a women empowerment program in2013. The Vision of the program is "to empower women and girls across Gujarat through basic training in Self Defence" through a program called PADKAR (A Powerful Defence Through Courageous Response). PADKAR program was implemented across talukas and districts of Gujarat and training was imparted to over two-lakh fifty thousand girls and women in schools and colleges.

Experts were brought on board to develop the program using elements from various martial arts (such as judo, karate, kung fu etc).

We implemented the program in two phases across 33 Districts of Gujarat. 2,77,253 (Two Lakh Seventy Seven two Hundred and Fifty Three) girls and women from 750+ schools, 100+ colleges and MahilaMandals were trained in self-defense. As project managers for the initiative, we ensured standardization of training provided through continuous monitoring.

Given the success of the pilot project in 2014, it has been decided by the Government of Gujarat to implement this program across Gujarat. This year the PADKAR Basic Course of 10 days shall be provided to 50,000 girls and additionally 2-day PADKAR Refresher course shall be provided to 50,000 girls who were trained last year.
